Mind Mapping, a Creative Way to Create Great Ideas

, ()

On Saturday, 11th of June 2022, Act Global held the Program Belajar Monthly Program with the topic “Mind Mapping, a creative way to create great ideas” with Dimas Fadhilah Aprilian Santosa as the speaker, he is the CEO and Founder of Rumah Penalaran, an education platform that helps to develop writing and reasoning skills.

Obviously, first thing first, Dimas explained what is mind mapping? So mind mapping is a technique to combine the right and left brain to receive many new ideas. As this technique combines the right and left brain, this is powerful as it enhances the clarity, structure and organization of the thinking.

There are 3 main benefit of Mind Mapping according to Dimas, namely:

  1. Help the learning process,
  2. Increase creativity,
  3. Increase understandability.

Dimas also explained some types of mind mapping, there are: flow map, circle map, and bubble map.

Flow Map

Flow Map is the most common type of mind mapping. This mind map is very suitable for making a series of processes or grouping ideas and their derivatives. Flow maps are usually also used to identify a concept or problem.

Circle Map

Circle maps can help to identify the concept needed from the many ideas you have during brainstorming.

Bubble Map

Bubble map has a shape like a bubble connected to a big circle as the main idea of a concept. In using bubble maps, it depends on the words of the idea you want to map. This is because each of these words can help you remember the meaning of each idea in the mind map.

Mind mapping can be really helpful in every aspect of our life, as we associate and remember images more than words, and it is an effective way of getting information in a creative and logical way: note taking and note making.

Mind maps are also a good tool to refresh information in our mind. To create mind map, we can follow these methods:

  1. Determine the main topic,
  2. Create branches based on the main topic,
  3. Describe the main branch into several topics,
  4. Connect each idea with a line,
  5. Use color coding on lines to link each topic,
  6. Develop the each topic with the most important ideas,
  7. Add note if required.
