From generation to generation, there must be different points of view in various matters. Starting from how to survive, educate, organize to technological differences. Along with the times, people will see the difference between ancient times and today. This is not something that eliminates identity, but there are many things that can be learned and continue to be implemented from generation to generation. The things that will be discussed are seniors will share their organizational experiences, then young people will also give their views on organizational activities.
We will learn together to develop wisdom to judge other people and situations, and especially to respond appropriately to their environment. With this activity, it is hoped that young people can learn from seniors to find a middle point in order to respect the character of each individual and of course be able to achieve organizational goals even though there are already different times, but the soft skills that must be possessed are still the same. Therefore, it is necessary to share sessions across generations.
On Thursday, May 5, 2022, a sharing session with seniors was held with Mr. Wira. He was born in 1957. Organizational positions he has participated in include Chairman of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI), Head of STISPOL Wira Bhakti Denpasar, Chair of the Bali Province National Assimilation Forum, TARPADNAS Alumni, TAR-KADER Alumni State Defense, Alumni ORPIM Youth-LEMHANNAS, and Alumni of TAPLAI KEBANGSAAN LEMHANNAS. He also has experience overseas that might be continued by all of you. He was the Indonesian Ambassador with the Malaysian Ambassador to Okayama, Japan in the IYEAO (International Youth Exchange Association of Okayama) activity for one month in 1995. He said he knows about places in Indonesia because he got the opportunity from joining organizations. He was the Chair of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI), He started from the bottom and did not immediately become a leader. He started studying organization from junior high school to college. He happens to be an economics graduate who is involved in management.
In the sharing session he said that the first thing we have to understand is what an organization is. Organization is the union of two or more people in an organized body. It does not have to be conventional. If you wanted to express your opinion, you would have to meet, now we can do it via WhatsApp. The point is, we have to adjust where we are. We must have a unified vision, one goal and mission. Vision is a fundamental ideal, purpose, then mission is what to do. In addition, In organizational management there must be a POAC. Planning – Organizing – Actuating – Controlling. In making something, of course, it begins with planning, then determines what is done and who does it, then the process is carried out and also coordination before the work. After that there is controlling and evaluation. It’s a different era. In the past, the orientation was conventional, but now it is the digital era. Now with globalization we can see the whole world. If in the past I wanted to meet Japanese people, I had to go to Japan. But now I can communicate with my friends via Facebook or chat. If you wanted to buy goods in the past, you had to go to the market, right now, you can do it online. With this globalization can shorten the distance. His soft skills increase the ability to use information technology.
Another thing that needs to be considered is about leadership. Leadership is the ability to move others. Should you be highly educated? No. An example of a car driver, does not have a high education. However, he is able to gather the entire drivers. This is leadership ability. A good leader is one who has leadership. Who has the ability to move others, he is the real leader. Motivate others with a purpose. At the end of the sharing session, Mr. Wira gives advice to the younger generation that organizations must have one vision, one goal, and one mission. That’s what you have to hold onto. The vision is what the biggest ideals are, then what are the goals we want, and what we have to do. It persists in all generations.
The conclusion is that a good leader is one who is able to move members to a goal. In the organization there must be a clear vision, goals and mission. The organization must pay attention to POAC (Planning – Organizing – Actuating – Controlling.
